Compare and contrast the views of Brudnicki and Nye. Even though Nye's poem does not directly talk about her kindness for other people, how do you think she would react to Brudnicki's stand against feeding the homeless? And how do you think Brudnicki feels about "kindness?" Complete the venn diagram comparing and contrasting the two authors.
On paper, make two arguments for the question: Is it a moral obligation to practice philanthropy according to Nye/Brudnicki?
One argument needs to take Brudnicki's view on kindness. Use quotes from the video to back up your case. The other arguement needs to take Nye's viewpoint on this subject. Use quotes from the poem to back up your case. Also, you may integrate quotes from other essays, stories, or songs that we have read in order to make your point. The more author's you have on your side, the more convincing you may sound.
I will divide you up into Brudnicki and Nye groups. You will not know which side you are on until I pull you into the middle- so make sure both of your arguments are sound. I will bring you into the middle to argue your side of the question. The rest of the class will vote on the group that made the best points, used the best evidence, and explained their points the best.
